Sap Drowsrine.—A sad drowning accident happened at North Pinette River on the 23rd ult. Mr. Howard Ross’ two children, Angus William, aged 7 years, and a little girl aged 3 years, accompanied by a young lad named Daly. aged 10 years, floated a rait which had been used in ferrying, and paddled into the river. The children were within 150 yards, and in full view of Morrison’s ship yard. It seems that after they got afloat in the stream they became frightened, and it is supposed youag Ross got oif the raft. The effects of the late Bishop's policy was noticable by the large clerical and lay vote in faver of Dr. Edgiuti, and also by the remarkable statements of the Rev. J. J. Ritehie of Annapolis Royal and other members of a party that strenuously oppes- ed Bishop Binney, that now they had to acknowledge that the Bishop was right and that his forethought,correct judgement and wise administration was evidenced by the large and important Synod,and by the deep interest in Church matters now manifested in all parts of the diogese.
The speeches of condolence with Dr. Binney’s fainily and evlogy of the late Pre- late were eloquent and most affecting. Many of the speakers could not continue their addresses by) reason of their emotions which circumstance had a most melting effect upon many of the lay mem- bers.
it must be admitted that the supporters of Dr. Sullivan, after the election of Dr. Edghill, showed a degree ot nobleness of smrit and magnanimity that was truly Christian in its character.
Indeed the whole of the proceedings of
this important assembly of churchmen showed in a remarkable manner the high- toned Christian gentlemen, and the pious
humility ond exalted charity that should ever characterize such gatherings.

Another Suecessful Isiander. Honors are falling thick and fast upon our Island students in the universities of the other provinces. But a few weeks ago we published a long list of names of those who had carried off distinctions at Halifax, foronto and Montreal, showing that in the
universities of these cities Islanders more than held their own. It is our great pleasure to announce to-day the most brilliant success of the vear. News has just reached us that Mr. John P. McGrath, who gained the Hodgson burse at Laval
two years ago, has come out of a competi- tion, in which the first talent of the many colleges athliated to Laval University contested the honors, with the first place, thus gaining the much sougit after Prince of Wales prize. This is all the more gratifying when we understand that the competitors for the prize were all degree winners at the closing examination, and from their long attendance at Laval or some of the colleges afliliated, enjoyed advantages Which should have counted well in the contest. The carrying of this prize is a mark of the highest distinction at Laval and we rejoice that for once it comes te litde Prince Edward Island.
Mr. McGrath who has brought his Island province so much honor and ia such an aus- picious manner earned the first laurals for the Hodgson Bursery, is a son of Mr. John McGrath, of Sea Cow Pond,Prince County, andisonly twenty yearsof age, The*‘Prince of Wales Prize” was founded at Laval by the Prince himself on the occasion of his visit to Quebec in 1860. It is a money prize, being the imterest of the sum of $800, but in point of importance has first place in the arts course.
We congratulate Mr. McGrath, the Hodgson trustees, and the Island on this grand honor. Mr. MeGrath also secured other prizes and the degree of A. M.
