Off the top I want to encourage you to par- ticipate in the upcoming stu- dent Union Rally. The educa- tion system that everyone is talk- ing about is yours. Don’t you think you should be involved? Look for details to be publicized around campus. Also, the next scheduled PEI student aid appeal board meeting is March 28th.

Whether you spent your read- ing break reading or not is none of my business. My concern is that you had a break of some kind, and that it was relatively free from fi- nancial stress. (It can be such a drag to have fee time with no funds.) Perhaps, next year your budgeting will be such that your reading break is everything that you need it to be.

This year still holds midterms’

for some of you and I hoe all goes well. When you have free time I invite you to drop by student ser- vices for a look at the undergrad- uate and graduate financial aid binders and accompanying files. There are’ still sny awards’ avail- able.

The Provincial student aid appeals board met recently, and will probably meet a few more times before the semester is out. If you are thinking about pursu- ing an appeal of your own, then get me to have a look at it first. I can give advice, or relieve some of those unnecessary fears, or both. I have been the student repre- sentative on the board for three years now, and, believe me, the process is not as bad as you think.

The committee meeting con- cerning the fee 9th deadline UPEI Awards is scheduled for Friday March 2 nd. It usually takes an- other week or so before notice is received by the winners.

The St. Governors administer two schol- arships. I hope this information answers many of you that had questions. The Mary Ellen Mac- Donald scholarship awarded for leadership is still not decided, is march 19th. The george Mac- Donald Scholarship Awarded for above average academic and ath- letic performance has a deadline date of March Ist.

COMMUNITY OF WEST ROYALTY/DR. PETER MEINCKE AWARD

This award of $200 is avail- able to a student graduating this year “who has excelled in the area of community services.” Ex- amples of this type of service might be: Big Brothers/Big Sis- ters, PEI Literacy Council, Minor Sports, 4-H, Church groups, Po- litical parties. Application forms are available at the Registrar’s Office and must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on FRIDAY, 30 MARCH, 1990.

HENRY BIRKS & SONS GOLD MEDAL

This medal is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated to an outstand- ing degree qualities of scholarship and leadership within the Univer- sity community. Recommenda- tions for this award may be made by any member of the University community to the Awards Com- mittee by 30 March. Winners of the Governor General’s Medals will not be eligible for this award.

Recommendations and sup- porting material will be received in this office for onward transmis- sion to the Awards Committee up to Friday, 30 March, 1990.

VALUE

Two scholarships valued at $12,500 each will be awarded for the 1990/91 academic year, to students entering the first year of the MBA program at Dalhousie

University. The awards will be .

renewable, contingent upon the Scholars maintaining a high level of scholastic achievement in the first year of the award and contin- uing full time studies toward an MBA degree at Dalhousie. Sco- tiabank Scholars will have the op- tion of a position of employment with the Bank for the months be- tween the first and second years

QUALIFICATION
