LITTLE SANDS

Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, Toronto, Ont, were visitors to Little Sands recently, visiting at the home of Mrs. Campbell’s bro- ther, Mr. Hugh MacNeill. The Campbells also visited relatives and friends in Uigg and Kimoss. In Kiuross, they were the guests of Mrs. R. C. MacLeod, a sister of Mrs. Campbell’s.

Mrs. R.C. MacLeod. Kinross, ac companied her sister, Ma‘s. Camp- bellononeofhertriipstohittle Sands and relatives and friends were happy to see Mrs. Mac- Leod again. Last winter, Mrs. MacLeod had been in a. car ac- cident, and it was good she had recovered so well.

Mrs. Alexander Blue, Little Sands, was saddened to hear of the passing of her first~cousin Grace, Mrs. Ellsworth Llewellyn, at her home in Montague on June 24th. Mrs. Llewellyn was laid to rest in the Sturgeon Cem- etery, quite near her mother’s place. To all her bereaw- ed relatives and triends, loving sympathy is extended.

Miss Kathryn MaoNeili who arrived home from Boston in June to spend the simmer, spent a few days last week visiting with her niece, Mrs. Alex Stew- art and Mr. Stewart and family in Charlottetown. ‘

Commendations and best wishes for many years of happy married life go out‘to Mr. and Mrs. Ro- land Hensley Ward, Hampshire, who were married in the Hyde River - Presbyterian (21inch June 25th. Mrs. Ward is the daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Chasm MacLean, Winslow. Chester tor- merlry belonged to little Sands. Relatives here and in Murray RiVer attended the wedding.

We are sorry to hear that Mr. Johnny Sanders, Murray River, is a patient in the Montague Hos- pital. His relatives and friends in Little Sands wish him a good recovery soon.

School closed here on June 20, with a picnic for the ehidren and parents at Guernsey Cove. The children were conveyed there by trucks by Mrs. Lloyd Wheeler and Mr. Chester LeLaoheur and enjoyed a very pleasant attemoon The teacher, Mrs. LeLecheur, treated the children very gener- ously with ice cream and candy.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester LeLacli- eur left Little Sands the last of the week for Cornwall where they plan to take up residence.

Cape Bretoners Inquire What f The Future Holds For Dosco '

SYDNEY (CE—The president of A. V. Roe (Canada) Limited has been asked to tell 130,000 Cape Breton-ens what the future holds for the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation.

Cape Breton County Warden M. T. Sullivan released the text of a telegram sen-t Wednesday to Crawford Gordon, Jr, on behalf of the county and communities of Sydney, Glace Bay, New Waterford, Sydney Mines, North Sydney, Dominion and Louis- bourg.

Roe last year acquired control of Dosco, the largest industrial employer in Nova Scotia.

Mr. Sullivan's telegram dealt with a decision to shut down Dominion Coal Company mines for 25 days during, the summer months and “a sharp cutback in steel in which 840 or so men have been released from their jobs" at the Dominion Iron and Steel Limited plant here. Both com-

“Some 7,270 men have been registered with the unemploy- ment insurance ottices as a re- sult of the fiorced mine closures,” the telegram said. It asked for a guarantee I that the idle period would be limited to five weeks and steel production would be maintained and increased.

FACT-FINDING STATEMENT

“. . . I ask tor your assurance that a fact-facing statement will be made,” Mr. Sullivan said. "An A. V. Roe declaration of policy is desirable. But all we ask are the facts, a straight «from - the- shoulder statement. . . .”
