The only persons who would derive any advantage would be the projectors, first by pocketing the sterling stuff out of the strong box; for not a solitary sous will the labour- er get, save the Devil’s pay in the shape of negro Rum et cetera.

The public then forsooth were to be at the expense ofbuilding a bridge for the ac- commodation of two or three wealthy fa- milies to pass to and fro, and drive their gigs over to church, or exhibit their finery on public festivals. These fine folks, Gen- tlemen,should have a bridge for these laud- able purposes, that is if they rode para- mount over our backs,as they do on all other occasioas: but for one I would take es- pecial care it should be solely at their own expense for not one iota should come from the public direct; neither would I pay the Legislature so poor a compliment, to sup- pose they would grant them one farthing more for such futile absurd schemes when things of far greater moment are necessa- rily neglected.

a redundancy of bowels. Judges without bowels, articulated I half yawning, cer- tainly beats cockfighting. It would not do —making a desperate effort, I succeeded in grouping my way home under the cover of night. But so much was I under the in. fluence of nervous excitement, that every bush I saw bore the resemblance of a phan- tom of a Mechanical Judge without bowels, and every low ofthe cattle was in my mind —the blast of the silver trumpet ofthe Ge- ni of Prince Town.

Having however, at length reached home with great difficulty, I heartily gave the cursed bridge projectors, and all, toge- ther with my own folly to his sable Majes- ty, and from henceforth determined to dream no more.

We have delayed until late this impression, in expectation ofreceiving additional news by the Steam Boat, we are however disappointed, she bringing no intelligence later than our last number contained.

On Wednesday Evening last, the Annual Meeting of the Wesleyan Auxiliary Branch Society, was held at the IVesleyan Chapel. Several appropriate addresses were delivered by the Rev. Gentlemen present.—The amount collected exceeded that oflast year.

His Majesty’s ship Columbine, Lieut- Me- therall, and Monkey Tender, arrived in this port on Tuesday last, 7 days from Halifax.— * These vessels proceeded to-day to the North Cape, in consequence of depredations being committed there, by BrotherJonathan.

Dr. Jenkins who was dcspatched by the Board of Health in search of Mr. Cholera, on board the brig Sultan, as noticed in our last, has returned without intercepting that gentle- man. Dr. J. we understand, found the crew of the above vessel in perfect health.

We learn that the Cholera has nearly disappeared in Philadelphia and N ewYork. The daily Prints of those cities say, " Ab- sentees may now return to their houses with confidence.”——-The Cholera still lin— gers in many parts of the Union, as also in the Canadas.

It is said that His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor ol'Nova-Scotia has obtained leave of absence for one year, and that himself and fa- mily take passage for England in the course of this month, in the Chebucto. It is thought that the Honorable T. N. jefl'ery, senior mem- ber of the Council, will assume the reins of Government on His Excellency’s departure.
