i people from crowded Europe to America. Within the past century more than twenty millions of people from Europe maria their homes In the United States alone. For some years past the number of Immigrants landed In the great Republic has been more than a million a yaar and the total from tho beginning of the movement exceeds twenty-five millions. Other millions have come to Canada. Mexico, Brazil and Argentina In comparatively recent years. These Immigrants and the natural increase of them and ‘ their descendants In like up the bulk of the population of the New World.

And the this Is Increasing In volume. Canada received last year between WAX!) and 250,000 immigrant settlers and the estimate for the current year Is over 300, 000. On only five dlfiarent ysara before the Dominion was formed did the United States receive so many. and In only one year before 1870 was the Immigration to that. country In excess of 400.01). Can- ada is now recalvlng ten times as many Immigrants as the United States was receiving when that nation was forty years old. And while now our population Is In that of the United States as 1 to 14 we are receiving one fourth part as many immigrants as our southern competitor and generally of a batter class.
