Explanation of Delay in Sending Them Home.

Orrawa, Aug. 2&—The delay in serc- ing the convalescent soldiers to their homes is probably accounted for by the fact that only on Aug 1 did the war office issuethe regulations regarding the trestment to be accorded to those who might be in hospital in England. The regulations, a copy of which was received by the Minister of Militia to day,provides for free transpor'a- tion to the colony anda grant ?of five pounde for each man, Inevery case careful note is to be taken of ihe soldier’s intended acdress, with a view of ensuring bis sharing ia amy general war gratuity or iseue of medale which may hereafter be awarded. DIFPEKENCE IN THE PORMS OF ENLISTMENT. Asks 7 Canadians Remain in South Africa.

Orrawa, Aug. 30.—Following up the recent communication from Col. Otter with reference to the period of service in South Africa a despatch was yesterday regeived by the Militia Department from Chamberlain enclosing one from Roberts in which hecalls attention to the difs ference in the forms of elistment between English volunteers and the corps of the Canadian regiment.

The former, it appears, were enlisted for one year whereas the term of s-rvice for the Canadians for one year terminates on the 15th ot October. The Command er-in~Cbief aske that the Canadians be given permission ;to remain in South Africa for two or three months after the expiration of their term of ealistment.
