Mr. Sicvem referrecl to the olcli prophecy foretelling lhe day when: "nation shall not lift up swordl against nation” and went. on to say that as the implements of war shall be refashioned to make im-. plemenis of peace. so shall thcrel he a new and higher heroism, re-l cognized for the saving rather thanf the taking of human life. Elabora-1 ting on the theme. the speakert described at painting representing? Peace which showed a cannonu wasting and rusting away. He said, the prophets picture of Peace was more beautiful for in it instruments of war were trans-i formed into instruments for new and better service". The fact. that mnflici and strife may be stirred up by trifling and amazing things; was illustrated by a number of incidents. ,
Mr. Stevens recalled that when; the Armistice was signed a few years ago. "it was hoped that the! great. era foretold by the prophet might. be ushr-rccll in. but in spite of the present conflict now ragingl in Korea. I believe the day will come when peace shall cover the earth"- An encouraging example of peace between nations. is the statue. well-known as "The Christ.” of the Andes." It was made of melt-' ed cannon on the border betweeny Argentine and Chile at the con-, t-fusion of war between the two- muntries. and signifies peace to! all who see it. I

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mr. John Weeks and family in the sudden death of wife and mother on Tuesday. June 20th, at her home in Elmsdale at the age of fifty- lliree years. Mrs. Weeks was stricken by a heart attack. which proved fatal despite skillful med- ical attention. Her funeral which was very largely attended by rel- atives and friends. was held at

Although at such an advanced age her mother has good hearing and does not need glasses and has a fine memory, ller many friends will continue to pray that God's continued hlessin; niny rest upon her in "the sunset and even- ing star period" of her life.

About thirty five young: peoplc of O'Leary and community, both boys and girls. held a weiner roast and shower for Miss Norma Camp- bell of O'Leary, a bride-clcct. on Friday evening July 7th at Miss Marcia Patels cabin on the beau- tiful Miss River. Despite inclement weather. the young folk had a fine llme, The presentation of several lovely gifts were made by Mrs. Lewis Bernard. Miss Campbell thanked her friends in a low well chosen words. Her marriage to Dr. George Fraser of New Glasgow will take place on July 19th. Miss Campbell is one of the most popli- lar young ladies of O'l..eary and her legion of friends wish her ev- ery blessing in her marriage. She was formerly employed in St. John. N. B. on the staff of one of the local banks in that city. Dr. Fraser is 8 member of this year's grad- uating class of Dalhousic Medical School in Halifax and will shortly be leaving for New York to take a post graduate course.
