Tere has been some Reform rejoicing over Nr. Anglin’s election. Yet that elecsl tion was one of the strongest evidences of the extent to which the Reform Govern» ment has lost ground. On a former occa» sion Mr, Anglin’s majority was 1,097. Now it is but 333, and 200 out of that majority came from one locality. In the more in- telligent places Mr. Turgeon ran Mr. An- glin close—in some places secured & ma- jority. in Bathurst the figures stood: An- glia, 245; Turgeon, 209. Since the origin of the institution 185 pupils have been ad- mitted to it, of whom 129 belonged to Nova Scotia, 36 came from New Bruns» wick, 13 from Prince Edward Island, and < from Newfoundland, Some of these pupils are doing well and earning a re~ spectable living in various occupations. Tne attendance at the school for the session of 1876-7 has been 27 males and 15 females. According to report, the institution seems to be in a flourishing condition, In the in dustrial department George Seward, of this city, took the first prize for priating. Tue 12ra.—The Halifax Chronicle's Mon. treal despatch ‘of the 9th inst., reports that people are generally excited over anticipas tions of the 12th of July. that volunteers will be cailed out to pro~ tect the Orangemen, who protest that they will walk. A meeting of Lrish Catholic so- cieties has been held under the presi lency of Mr. Deviin, M. P., at which it was rex resolved to write to the various Protestant societies, and to that of St. Jean Baptiste to co-operate with them in endeavors to prevent a breach of the peace on that oc- cation. The parties, it is expected, will meet to-morrow. Orders have been issued for the volunteers to guard their armories to-night, to-morrow and Wednesday, while the men of the different corps have been ordered to return their arms to headquar- ters.
