‘*PoraTors are said to be in demand in England at high prices,” writes a correspond- ent, ‘‘but the quotations given in the papers do not go to show it. They are quoted in St. John’s market, Liverpool, at from 4s. to 7s. percwt. If these are the correct figures, shippess who are now oe forward sup- plies will find it an unprofitable speculation.”

THERE is great excitement at the Appraiser’s Office Water street. The street in front of the office is full of cases and packages, ex. Prince Edward. Merchants’ clerks are crow d- ing about the venerable Appraiser, who temper must be %put to asevere test. ‘The office —which contains only about half a dozen cases at most—is}so packed that one or two seemingly inexperienced officers have no room to move.

Messrs. Horse, Prerce & Co. received from the Factory of Walter A. Wood, M. & R. M. Co., of Hoosac Falls, N. Y., two self- binders and harvesters. These binders have been brought tothe Isiand to experiment on as they are something different from what have hitherto een manufactured. These binders bind with twine instead of wire —as the other machines. Farmerathink it an improvoment over the wire. The machines will be at work at Souris and St. Peter’s Bay for a week or ten days or as long as they can tind grain to cut. Mr. Walter A. Wood, the President, and Mr. J. M. Rosebrooks, the Superintendent of the Company, are now cn the Island with the machines. They intend to have the third on by the next Boston Boat; something of a different principle so they will be able to teat which is the best to build for another year’s sale. Whellam’s party of seventy intending settlers in Rapid City,or Little Saskatchewan, who arrived at Montreal on Wednesday. EXTRAORDINARY YiELD.--A few days ago we were shown an excellent sample of Cali- fernia wheat, grown by Wm. McDonald, of Panmure Island. From the sowing of ten pounds, Mr. McDonald had a yield of six and a half bushels, being the rate of thirty- nine bushels to one busiiel’s sowing. The ten pounds of seed referre to were sent to him rom California. Farmers should endeavor to secure some seed if attainable at all, at a reasonable figure. — A. C. Advertisor.
