A Galt, Ont., circular, of the Ist inst., states that the grain crops have improved much of late, and they now present a more favorable appearance, with every prospect of a fine quality, but poor yield. jluflueuced by this, the rise in prices has been checked, and markets are firm and steady. Flour is steady, the late ad- vance being firmly maintained and the demand is active. In4ialt, Spring Extra i3 quoted at from “$5.20 to $5.25; Extra, from $5.50 to 5.55; Su perior Extra from 5.60 to 5.65. The Montreal Gazette of the 4th reports that nothing was done iv breadstuffs on that market beyond the xales of a few lots of flour; Superior Extra selling at $5.95, and Spring Ex- tra at $5.75. Boston advices of the 2nd inst., state that old potatoes are about out of that market, and no regular prices can be given, although a few will be wanted for a week ortwo longer. Prices range from 30 to 90 cents. The Montreal Gazette of the 4th states: ‘*The advance in the price of old potatoes at the beginning of the week had the effect of bringing in larger supplies to-day, which had to be sold. at a considerable reduction, sales being reported of good Early Rose and Chili at 80to 90 cents per bag. New potatoes were also in much better supply, and prices were materially lower ; choice Karly Rose from Lapraire selling at $1.50 per bushel. There were several lots of small potatoes which it seemed a pity to dig, that sold for lower prices, but they were by far the dearest.”

OATS.

The English oat market was, at latest advices very dull, and 19s. 3d. is only obtaicable’ at“ present. Fratice is not buying, and the quotations above are for the United Kingdom. Sellers are hold- ing out for 19s. 6., bat they will have to give way. EGGS, There has been a fair demand for eggs in Boston during the week, with very little variation in prices. Canadian fresh stock is quoted at 16 to 164 cents and Prince Edward Island eggs the same. COMMERCIAL NOTES, From Montreal Gazette, 4th inst. Bar Inon.—-Cable advices just received report an advance in the price of bar iron in England of 2s 6d per ton. Hipes.—Advices from Liverpool quote the hide market strong, and numerous en- quiries have been received in Boston and New York from the other side.
