Unper Arresr,—A man named McLel lan was lodged in Prince County jail terday, charged with stealing a grip-sack from a passenger on the train named Smith. Smith had two grip-sacks, and McLellan seems to have been. possessed of the communistie idea that it would be no harm to make a fair division of the pro- perty. Smith could not see the matter in this light, and ‘continued his search for the missing ‘‘ grip” until he found it.

The Express (independent Conservative) says that the surplus of the Parnell indem- nity fund exceeds £40,000. The accounts show tliat only £20,000 have been used for legal expenses in connection with the spe- cial commission. The remainder, the Hz- press says, cannot legally be distributed among the evicted tenants, and it therefore ought to be returned to the subscribers to the fund.

The Dominion Government have decided to withdraw the privilege of loading and repacking fish in bond, hitherto enjoyed by the French fishermen. It is contended that this withdrawal will be regarded as an unfriendly act by the French Government, and will spoil Sir Charles Tupper’s efforts to negotiate a commercial treaty with France.
