Qéd. in order to put a stop to a trade in the coin which has too long existed —-Wiien shall our own base and deplorable currency meet‘the attention, either of our merchants, or the members of the Colonial Legislature. \Vith the former, the question should be considered, and let the latter heal the evil. At a future period,we shall take some further notice of this sub- ject, which we Consider all-important to the interests and credit of this Co- lony.

“AMERICAN Reruorarroa.”—Some letters by a Rcrcrend Sydney Smith, are appearing in the colonial papers, which, we think, cannot escape the attention of the whole American pub~ lic; but, for the credit of the author, it Would have been far better were they not published, or that he had endorsed them “ posthumous papers.” The style of his writings is directly the reverse of a temperate or chris- tian author. To engage in political or contrOVersial discussions in the public papers,that would reach across the Atlantic—is absurd in the ex- treme— and, digressing from his re- ligious duties, the act would seem as a matter that may repudiate his chaJ racter as a true servant of his meek and gracious Master.
