Srr,—Of late, correspondence from anonymous writers has appeared in the columns of Tug Examiner, wherein I om made the subject of personal attack. Your correspondeuts have not had the moral courage to appear over their proper signa- tures, nor have they deemed 1: prudent to make mention of me by vame; but, with all the treachery of assassins, have, under cover of darkness, aimed at injuring me. I have patiently borne with their flagitious tissues of baseless assertions, though often advised to contradict their statements, being assured they were directed at me. But my name not having been mentioned, and fearing, should | attempt a reply, that my communication should share, at the hands of the editor of Tue Examineg, a fate similar to previous ones, wherein [ sought redress for personal attacks in its columns, I took no further notice of your correspondents’ slanders. But lest silence on my part should be construed into a be- lief in the truth of such foul fabrications, I have thought it advisable to ask you to give space to this notice of your corres- pondents.

So far as ‘‘ A. O. T’s.” remarks are in- tended to refer to me, I state them to ba the foulest of libels that ever appeared in print. As Mr. Lawson is, I presume, well able to take care of himself, it is more than probable that he does not thank ‘* A. O. T.” for having dragged his name before the public in this connection. As respectg the statements of your correspondent **Catholic” they are as {ligrint falsehoods as are those of ‘' A. O. T.”

It might not be taken amiss were I to suggest tothe editor the propriety of ex- cluding from his columns any more writing under this head from anonymous corres- pondente, unless it is intended to mske THe EXAMINER a medium of slander.

In conclusion, permit me to say that if your correspondents ‘‘ Catholic” or ‘A. O. T.” will attack me by name, or endorse what they have already written over their proper signatures, | promise that their names, for once, at least, shall be placed upon the records of the civil couris.
