Social Worker Discusses Woman Drinker Problem

TORONTO (CP) — At the mere mention of a woman alcoholic, the image of a grubby, immoral and irrespon- sible woman springs to the mind of many people.

This is unfortunate because this stereotype of the woman alcoholic prevents many women and their families from seeking help for their drinking problem, and often even admitting that there is a problem. says Mar« garet Cork, chief social worker at the Alcoholism and Addiction Research Foundation in Toronto

The woman alcoholic comes from every social, economic and cultural background. She ma be the company presi- the middle class suburban housewife, the un- married career girl or a crim- inal, but this is what so many people fail to understand.
