On Saturday Dec. 2nd Mrs. Cos- tain celebrated her ninetieth birth- day. The members of the family and relatives held a. party for her at the home of Mrs. Jamie Small- man. The guest of honor received a number of lovely gifts. There was an attractive birthday cake and delicious refreshments were served. This grand old lady has the good wishes of a multitude of friends that Almighty God will continue to bless her in the even- tide oi her life.

The annual meeting of the Mill River East Presbyterian Young Peoples Society was held at the Haywood home. The devotions were conducted by the minister, Rev. G. B. Cunningham of Albert- on. The roll call was responded to by eleven members. The following officers were then elected with the Minister presiding as chairman- President--Mrs. Jamie Gard: vice president-Mrs. Kentford Horne; secretary - Mrs. R. G. Haywood: social canveners-lvurs. George Cunningham and Mrs. Sutherland Bell. The retiring president. Mrs. Sutherland Bell thanked vhe mem- bers for their co-operation. This

young people are looking forward to another year of interesting and instructive meetings. Committees for the next two weeks are: Sick- Mrs. Kentford Horne; devotional- Mrs. Harold Home. the next meet- ing will be held at the home oi Mr. and Mrs. Kentiord Home.

-There was an attendance of about thirty on Monday night Dec. 4th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Lockhart in Coleman when the annual meeting of the Brse United Ohurch Young People's Union was held. The meeting open- ed with a short devotional ser- vice conducted by the President Mrs. Roy Oulton. A fine financial report was given by the secretary- treasurer Mrs. Lorne MacNevin. The Y. P. U. had a paid up mem- bership of 24, and it is one of the largest groups in the Western Presbytery Y. P. U. During last year it bought new hymn books for the church, contributed to many charities and sponsored two com- munity parties in which all the children of the community were invited. one at Christmas and one at Hnllowe'cn. The Nominating Com- mittee called for the appointment of a First Vice-President to replace Alan and Amanda Wedlook. who have left for Moncton. N. 13.. to reside. Don and Winnie Baker were chosen. The program was in charge of Horace and Pat Mac- Frarlane. with Rev. L M. Murray of Kensington being guest speaker. and giving an inspiring talk on "The Meaning of Christmas." An interesting article entitled "Fam- ilv Memories" was read by Pat Mac!-larlane Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by the committee in charge.-S.
