Thieves broke into the unoccupied house of Assistant Secretary of the In- terior Jenks at Brookville, Pa., recently, aod carefully packed up all articles of value that they could carry. During a thunder storm at Freeland, Pa., on Tuesday, lightning struck the chimney ofa schoolhouse, and passed down into the room, striking four little girls who were sitting near the stove, Florence Hodgson, nine years o)d, was fatally injured ; her clothes caught fire aod she was terribly burned, and her right side was paralyzed The other three were badly hurt, but will probably recover.

A livery stable keeper in Baltimore has a strange animal), which is said to have been caught by indians in Dakota three or four years ago. The head, body,

and hair are like a cow's, the legs and tail like a horse’s. It eats like a cow, and chewsthe cud. Its hair, which is

dark brown, like a buffalo’s, is closely matted, and about five inches long. It has been broken to harness and drives well,
