Information has been received here that the Brazilian Parliament has voted tiie subsidy of $50 000 to a line of steamers to trade between the ports of that country and Canada. A mob of 300 Italian laboreas on the Cape Cod Ship Canal, on learning that the money promised to be paid them did not arrive, gathered around the Central Hotel where the contractor, Mr. Dreisback, stops, demanding their money due. Not finding Dreisback, his son was taken by them, they proposing to lock him up in their shanty until the money was paid. Special police- men were sworn in and for a time the mob was quelled. Chief Wade with a detective force arrived, and a larger force is expected to-day fto.u Boston.

CINCINNATI, O., Oct. 20.

A collision on the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton R. R., at Jones Station this morning, injured fifteen -passengers. The train was taking the siding when train No. 13 ran,into the rear car, smashing the engine's wpper works and filling the car with steain.

A fire broke out this morning in Ben. Mey’s shoddy factory, cutting off all means of escape froin the third floor,where women were at work. Ineffectual attempts were made to rescue them. The dead are: Rachael Daggett, 55 years old ; Margaret Walsh, 60; Mary Tyner, 49; Catherine Jackson, 55; Mrs. E. Barret jumped from a window and escaped. No one is to blame for the loss of life, Damage to property, $25,000. Tue building was not burned down.

This vessel left that port on the 19th August, went to Bay Verte, discharged ballast, and ioaded a cargo of deals for Greenock, discharged ear- go, took in ballast and returned to port, -making the round trip in two months.— Advertiser,

MiracuLous Escarge.—One of the sons of | Mr. Allan McKinlay, of South Wiltshire, had a miraculous escape from death on Tuesday last. He was riding while his brother was raking a potato field with a revolving rake. While at work, the mare ran away and threw him off. He fell under the teeth of the rake and was dragged about three chains. The clothes were torn from his back, his body scratched and bruised and his scalp literally torn from his head. Dr. Henderson was, as soon as possible, called in, and it took him about two hours tosew up and dress his many wounds. We are glad to learn that un- der the doctor’s skilful treatment the lad is likely to recover.
