Fencing: UPEI’S Hidden Sport

Fencing- ancient art, modern sport. It has been likened to playing chess and running the 100 yard dash at the same time. It is a think- ing man’s sport. Not that it is only meant for men; some of the women from the Island have made signifigant contri- butions to the sport around our region as well as nation- ally.

The sport consists of three different weapons: the foil, the epee, and the sabre, each with their individual rules. One of these will cer- tainly appeal to the most di- verse tastes. Not only is there the appeal of a compet- itive and recreational club, but there are also added bonuses such as free coach- ing, free equipment use, and,
