go wrong. There's always comfort in a song. -Peter Rabbit.

Peter Rabbit. I prisoner and alone in the dark in Farmer Brown's little sugar house among the maple trees. had felt lone- some. It isn't often that Peter feels loncsonic. but he did feel that way there. Then he heard a VPICP it was a very faint voice. what might be called a small voice. It was a squeaky voice. But. small as it was, and squeaky as it was. it niade Peter feel better. Soinevi here in that little house was one of the Mouse Folk. He was sure of it. Only a Mouse would have such a squeaky voiec. But which one of the Mouse cousins it might be. Peter could only guess.

Peter didn't stop to think he had no business in there. The soiifl. ltopped. All was perfectly still again. Peter waited anxiouS1.V- lie wished that little singer would sing again. He was sure that the stag- er must be little. Once he thought he heard that song again. but it was so faint he couldn't be sure. It was as if the singer had gone outside and was singing there. But how could that he? Peter hadn't heen able to find any place that he could get out.

Peter waited and waited and waited. He had almost given up hope of hearing that song again when suddenly he heard it right over his head. Yes. sir. that sing- er was right over Peter's head. Whoever it was must be on the bunk above him. He started to creep out from under it. The very instant he moved that song stop- ped. Peter stopped. He knew with- nut being l.tlltl that that song had stopped because the singer had heard him when he moved. That meant that the singer must be a very timid person. even more tim- ld than Peter himself.

Peter kept still and waited. Soon he heard the song again. This time it was from farther away. He knew the singer was no longer on that hunk. That pleasing small voice was coming from higher up than that bunk. Peter's curiosity was izrowiniz, He forgot all about the fact he was a prisoner. He forgot that Rcddv Fox might be waiting for him outside. All he could think of was that singer. and wonder who he was.
