P. for Queen’s County, George Pippy, of Alexandria, wasfined $20 and costa or two months imprisoument for assaulting Daniel McLellan of the same place. The assault was committed on the 11th December, at the Five Mile House, Pownal. It appears that McLellan and eowe others were in the house drinking, and upon being refused more liquor became noisy’ Mrs. Morrisey, the landlady, called upon Pippy to eject the men, but they went out without any assistance from him. Pippy followed them to the door, and fired twoshots. The Cabinet has considered the new situ- ation in Egyp', and has decided to treat the accession of Abbass Pasha as an event not altering in any way the British policy. As Abbas Pasha will not attain his majority until July 14, the ministers foresee and probably have already been warned that France and Russia will incite the Sultan and will support his claim as Suzerain to establish a Regency. Even six months of a ‘regent nominated by the Sultan might de- atroy the British power in Egypt and would, certainly, lessen the British prestige.
