Veterinary College visited th e province last week to address the Veterinarians of the Province and discuss the problems associ- ated with infertility in livestock.

The Director of Veterinary Ser; vices. Dr. George C. Fishertact- ed as Chairman and welcomed Dr. Barker to the Province. In his introduction he pointed out that Dr. Barker was considered as one of the leading men in the field of Animal Reproduction. Last year he returned from ex- tensive travels in Europe where he visited the various centers where Artificial Breeding both in cattle and hugs is being conduct- ed. In the course of Dr. Barker's Illustrated address he showed films of the latest technique in the freezing of bull semen and the breeding of sows’ by use of Artificial» Insemination. A large number of slides were shown de- picting the various diseases and conditions which may affect the reproductive tract of the cow.

To meet his total demand he can buy good quality hay” preferably alfalfa, which will contain Vita- min A needed to help prevent abortions and increase disease resistance. This needed vitamin will also be present if he buys hay and in legume content. How- ever. if he buys poor hay he will also have to buy synthetic sup- plements to supply the necessary vitamins. -

To a certain extent grain can substitute for roughage. In ex- treme cases a mature cow can get by one-5 lbs. of hay supple- mented with grain. Again. this is possible only if necessary miner- als'and vitamins are included in the ration. '

By paying a little. more for good legume hay. a tanner re- ceives feed that will surpass syn- thetic supplements and poor roughage. ’

BREAD MAKING

A bread! .rising temperature similar to an inferno is not meant to be duplicated in your. kitchen. Sour or strong yeast flavor and order usually result from. too high heat while the bread is ris- ing or from over-rising. A good way to get the right temperature is by placing the bowl of rising bread on .a rack over a larger bowl filled with fairly warm wa- ter and covering both bowls with aclean tea towel. Replace water if it gets too cool. . ,

Insufficient ris- ing time could have caused this problem. or too long rising fol: lowed by a deflating of the dough, or maybe the oven temperature or the water-used to dissolve the yeast was too hot.

aviation consultant Frederic Kim- bell estimated Tuesday' that Trans‘Canada Air Lines would lose only about four per cent of expanding passenger traffic un- der transcontinental competition with Canadian Pacific Airlines.

His views, placed before the Air Transport Board on behalf of C‘PA's bid for a share in TCA‘s transcontinental monopoly. were challenged by John G. Edison. counsel for the government- owned TCA.

Mr. Edison told the board he would accept neither the validity of Mr. KimtbaII’s voluminous ta- bles nor the conclusions drawn from them. He objected to a CPA move to have a summary of Mr. Kimball‘s testimony in booklet form admitted as evi- dence before the board.
