pledge at the same time as the plaintiff.

The defendant courted the piaintiff for some months, the marriage was fixed

and the latter give up her situation. | Afier parting with him one night she did not see or hear of him again till she suw his wedding inthe papers. During the defendant's examination the follow- | ing colloquy took place :—

Mr. Barker—How old are you? Forty next birthday. You have been a saving man’ I
