a stock. The horses were few In number, and theugh there they were, onthe whole,

were some fine animals on the grounds, hardly up to the standard of the other counties. Inthe pens of sheep and pigs there were some very choice animals. The wheat of Mr. D. Robertson was a marvel to many. It weighed 68 lbs. Imperial measure, and 644 Ibs. Winchester measure; and we have no doubt it will be heard of in St. John, whither it has been sent by the Commissioners. The oats shown by Mr. Jos. D. Campbell, too, than any yet exhibited this season, and wer: judged worthy of being sent to St.

May wr Pueask Your Honor,— We, the Cormissioners appointed to manage the pres- ent Exhibition ot Agriculture and Industry, have much satisfaction in tendering a hearty welcome to your Honor on the occasion of your visit to Georgetown for the purpose of opening the Exhibivon.

We can assure your Honor that, personaily, we have endeavored to make it successful ; and wetrust that it may prove, inevery way, as interesting as we believe it to be important to the prosperity of the country.

Held at a period some days earlier in the senson than in past years—when the products of the fields are not tully stured—yet it is evi- deut that the labors of the farmers have mei with a fair average return; and we iook for a fine display of agricultural and horticultural products; and a marked improvement in the show of stock.

In the other branches ef industry, as well as in the works of artishown, we believe that your Honor will find proofs of steady progress and improvement. ; sae s, The public interest in these exhibitions, which has been awakened during the past few years, seems to be maintained with in- creasing activity in every part of the civilized world—affording evidence of the benetits resulting therefrom,

Fully recogmizing this fact, and declaring eur conviction that these exhibitions tend materially to the advancement and prosperity of the people, aud that no expenditure of pub- lic funds is followed by more lasting resuits, nor more beneficial to the true interests oi the Province, we entertain the hope that in each succeeding year a more liberal grant may be made for this purpose.

The result of our limited effort at the exhi bition just held an Montreal must prove very gratifying to the people of this Province ; and we bave no doubt will tend to stimulate our farmers to renewed ctlerts in preparing to enter into competition with the people of the elder Provinces.

Amid the many causes for thankfulness, during the past year, there is one which has caused sadness and sorrow, to the people of this Province. By the death of your Henor’s pre- decessor, the late Sir Robert Hodgson, the Province has lost one who ever teok a lively interest in all that concerned the welfare ot the inhabitants; aud his name will be cherish- ed and revered, as one of the best of Gover- nors and the most amiable of men.

As Commissioners, we have welcomed Your Honor to Georgetown, to open this Uxhibition; but we may go iurther and do se not only on behalf of the inhabitants of this town, but of the whole people of this Couniy, whe are happy to see you amongst them, reviving memories of the past, whea the County, with pride, claimed you as her representative.

We all unite in wishing for Your Honor, for Mrs. Haviland and your tamily, all health and happiness.
