Brigadier Stephen Longrigg, O-. B.E.,' D. Litt. will address ‘the Canadian Club of Charlottetown on Wednesday, May 6 on “Oil, Power Politics, the Arab Awakening”. Brigadier Longrigg was educated at Highgate School and Oxford University. Had it not been for the first war he might have stayed at Oxford as a don. World events turned the course of ‘his life and his schol- arly inclinations turned—instead to research into the history of the countries of the Middle East where he made his career.

In the first war he served in Gallipoli. and Mesopotamia. He stayed on as a#government of- ficial. in Iraq. until. 1931, when he joined the Iraq Petroleum Company. He travelled a good deal in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Palestine and formed a wide cir- cle of friends and contacts.

During the late war he ser- ved on the General Staff (In- telligence) at Cairo. During. the latter years of the war he was Governor successively of the -var- ious former Italian colonies, Cy- renaica, Somalia, and Eritrea.

He has written several books

On the afternoon and evening of Saturday, April 24, about 60 Sunday School teachers and lea- ders from churches of sr on P.E.I. met at Central istian Church, Charlottetown, for.a con- centrated course on thé improve- ment of the Sunday School pro- gram. ’

This conference was highly suc- cessful and it is hoped further similar meetings will be held. Chairman and primary or- ganizer of the conference was Donald F. Stewart, Superintend- ent of ‘the Bible School at Cen- tral Christian church. The con- ference was note-worthy for the high amount of participation by the audience in the many sub jects discussed.

Eleven Cases In Co. Court

Nine cases under the highway Traffic Act and two under the Temperance Act comprised the docket facing Magistrate Gilbert A. Gaudet in Queens County Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon.

Three offenders one, from Charlottetown and others from Ocean View and. Canoe Cove convicted of operating motor vehicles without having them reg- istered for the current year were each fined $10 and costs or 10 days. : \

For operating a motor vehicle without a driver's licence, resi- dents of Ocean View, Canoe Cove and Charlottetown, each received fines of $15 and costs or five days. .

Convicted on the charge ,of speeding a young Rustico man was given a fine of $10 and

or 10. days.. Information disclosed that the accused had driven his car at speeds of 70 to 75. m.p.h. in a 50 m.p.h. zone.

A fine of $2 and costs or two days was meted out to a Charlo ttetown youth for failing to dim his headlights when meeting on- coming traffic on the highway.

The two liquor offences comm- itted by residents of Charlottetown and Cornwall, charged with hav- ing intoxicating liquor in a place} other than their residents, each received a fine of $20 and costs or 30 days.
