If the course of the campaign drives, Arabi south, Zagazig, [with its two posts to supply —Ismailia and Alexandria—will become the centre of operations on Cairo.

If Admiral. Nicholson is not careful, the part which his marines played at Alexandria will be embalmed in heroic verse by the English poet laureate ossibly after the fashion in which the ‘*Charge of the Light ‘ Brigade” was commemorated. She is evening stan @ur- ing Angust and is a.conspicuous object in the sky, being now fifteen, sesonds in diam- eter and increasing steadily in apparent size until December, when her diameter will be sixty-four seconds. She was tn ‘Close conjunction with Mars on the 2od/ at six o'clock in the morning, the planets “at that time being only five minutes apart.; The planets are below the horizon at their near- est point, but were close. enough together on the evenings of the 1st and 2nd to make an interesting illustration of their seem- ingly near approach. They will come nearer than any two planets have come since the 18th of May, 1880, when Mer- cury and Neptune were one minute apart, or will come until the 25th of June, 1884, when Mercury and Saturn will be one min- ute apart.
Mars and Uranus are also evening stars, but there is pothing of special interest con- nected with their movements during August, Saturn is morning star, and is an inter- esting object during. the, month.
