ICPI-This Canso strait town and its sister community of Mulgrave may benefit in time from the curving causeway they now claim threatens them with extinction. Mulgrave citizens in particular have been agitating for several months for provincial government aid in establishing a paper mill to offset the loss of revenue repre- sented by the operation of ferries to Port Ilawkesbury on the island. These ferries will be taken out of service this summer when the causeway is opened as first land link between Nova Scotia mainland and Cape Breton island.

But the W4-mile length of the lM.000.000 "bridge" has had the effect 'of dsmming solidly the southward spring flow of ice from the Gulf of St. Lawrence, with the result that Mulgrave and this is- land terminus will wind up with two of the few year-round ice-free harbors in the Maritimes.
