Peculiar Custom.

The people of Guatemala, a corres- pondent writes, have a peculiar way of preparing their coffee for the table. Every week or so a quantity of the berry is ground and roasted, and hot water poured slowly upon it. The black liqaid whieh drips through is permitted to cool, when itis placed in a_ bottle and set upon the table like vinegar or Worcestershire sauce. Pots of hot water and milk are furnished, with which the cold black syrup may be diluted as required. This plan has its advantages, but it takes time to become accustomed to it.
