Report Steel Demand Now Picking Up
CLEVELAND (AP) — Deepite recent pniice increases the de- mand for steel is picking up. the magazine Steel reports today.
Senator Estes Kefa'uver (Dem. Tenn.) had predicted raising steel prices would reduce demand and production.
“Our customers didn't stand up and shout hooray," admitted Lo- ;gan T. Johnson, executive vice- president of, Anmco Steel Cor- poration. “but their reaction was generally favorable.”
Although increased (1 e m a n d was slight following the price in- crease, Stcel says, the gains Indicate the m arket’s latest strength.
Consumers are buying steel because they need it. By the end of the month, surplus inventories will be liquidated and users will be ordering as much steel as they consume. '
