Balance in Character.

Few persons are possesSed of a per- fectly balanced nature. Amiability is apt to be allied with weakness; a vigor- ous, pushing character is often impul- sive,barsh and unjust. A reflective mind is slow to act; a prompt mind is often wrong. So through all the elements of haracter, All the qualities that go to make up a perfect moral nature rarely appear in one person. The physicial and intellectual do not precisely con- form; the mental and moral are not even ly balanced. Thereare those possessed of stronger moral than mental natures. They constitute the spasmodic, impul- sive element in society. There are ethers whose intellects so absolutely control their moral natures, that nothing is admitted that can not be reasoned out satisfactorily. There are persons whose strong animal natures dominate all else, and both mind and spirit are subser- vient.

To reguiate all these parts so as to attain a fairdegree of equality is the right step toward securing what may be called balance in character.— Phi/adel- phia Call.

To look back to antiquity is one thing,to go back to it another. If we look back to it, it should be as those who are running @ race, only to press forward the faster,and to leave the beaten further behind.

A bird upon the wing may carry a seed that shall add a new species to the vegetable family of a continent; and just ao a word, a thought,from a living soul, may have results immeasurable, eter- nal.
