THE ASYLUM AGAIN,

Ir is pleasing to have an assurance from Dr. Blanchard that he visits the Hospital for the Insane once a day, and sometimes twice-—Sundays excepted,—even though it was obtained only upon a presentment of the Grand Inquest of Queen’s County. The doctor states that he keeps a record of every case admitted to the Hospital, “showing the daily condition of euch patient,” etc. What is still neededis an official record of the doctor’s visite and the 'ength thereof,— so that persons inter- ested, and having access to the Doctor’, record of cases, may be assured that patients requiriog medical attention re~ ceive it. That curable patients shall be cured, is what their relatives and friends expect and what the publicdemands. Dr. Blanchard receivee a salary of $1,000 per year; and iyneed not be said that a mere Visit once @ day, sometimes twice, without substantial results in the form of cures, is not ® satisfactory return for the money. We do not mean to say that Dr. Blanchard should devote all his time and skill to the Hospital for the sake of $1,000 a year, or that he should bz present in the Hospital during certain hours of each day. The Medical Superintendant of the Hospital! holds » highly responsible position, and may wellclaima freedom of action de~ nied to other servants of the public. But he ought, “certainly, when a curable or doubtful case is placed under his care, to give it careful attendance and sympathetic

interest until develops into @ cure or deep~ ens into confirmed lunacy.

The statements of The Examrver as to the need of room in the Hospital are bourne out and.confirmed by the Grand Jury. But the leaderless spoilsmen now in charge of the public offices can, Of course, do nothing towards correcting the blunders that have been made in that re~ gard. The interests of our lunatics are as nothiog in comparison with those of our Liberals who occupy public positions for

Another old and respected resident of North Lake, passed away on Sunday mc rning last, in the person of Mrs. Fanny Campbell, who died some years ago. “Aunt Panny,” as she was familiarly call- ed, was agreat favorite in the neighbor~ hood among old and young alike. Her kindness of heart and uprigatness of life will be remembered in the years to come.

The “glorious” fourth of July .was not forgctten by the two resident Americans Mesers Carlton and Jackson. The stars and stripes doated from their flag-poles ali daylong. Fireworks were displayed in the evening by Captain Jackson. The reception at “The Spruces” was numer ously attended.

Many of the lobster canneries around these parts were about being closed last week owing to a scarcity of lobsters. Since then, however, more lobsters are being taken and fishermen are still in hopes of doing fairly well before the season closea.

Hall, last evening, contained a large and appreciative audience co greet Miss Marietta LaDell on her second recital in Charlottetown; and a most enjoyable evening was spent in listening to @ real literary treat.
