A Gloomy Outlook.

The news from thecolliery districts isof the gloomiest description. The masters in Yorkshire are cutting down wagesinall diree‘ions, and the threats on the part ofthe men to strike have uo effect. The masters are largely overstocked, and a wholesale strike as far as they are concerned, would be decidedly advantageous. The men say that their wages are cut down so fine know that a reduction of even five, not to speak of ten or fif:en per cent., which are mentioned, means bringing themselves and families to the verge of starvation. At the present time the distress in the mining towns is very severe. Thousands have been support ed through the winter oa charity.
