ed candidate is qualiﬁed for, the Civil Service of India.

10 Any candidate who, at any of the periodical Ex- aminations, shall appear to have wilfully neglected his studies, or to, be physically incapacitated for pursuing the prescribed .course of training, will be liable to have his name removed from the list of selected candidates.

11. No candidate will be permitted to proceed to India before he shall have passed the Final Examination, and received a certiﬁcate of qualiﬁcation from the Civil Service Commissioners, or after he shall have attained the age of twenty-tour years.

12. The selected candidates who. at the Final EX- amination, shall be found to have a competent know- ledge Of the subjects speciﬁed in Regulation 9, shall be adjudged to have passed, and to be entitled to be ap- pointed to the Civi Service of India, provided they shall comply with the regulations in force, at the time, for the Civil Servrce of India, and shall be of sound bodily health and good mordl character. The Civil Service Commissioners will require such further evidence on these points as they may deem necessary before grant- ing their Certiﬁcate of Qualiﬁcation.

13. The seniority in the Civil Service of India of the selected candidates shall be determined according to the order in which they stand on the list resulting from the Final Examination.

14. Applications from persons desirous to be admitted as candidates are to be addressed to the Secretary to the Civil Service Commissioners, London, S. W.

N OTIS—(1) The Secretary of State for India in Council has authorised the Civil Service Commissioners to state that it is his intention to allow the sum 01 £100 after the ﬁrst year of probation, and £200 after the second year to each selected candidate who shall have passed the required Examinations to the satisfaction of the Commissioners, and shall have complied with such rules as may be laid down for the guidance of selected candidates.

(2) All selected candidates will be required, after having passed the second periodical Examina- tion, to attend at the India Oﬂice for the purpose of entering into an agreement binding themselves, amongst other things, to refund in certain cases the amount of their allowance in the event of their failing to proceed to India. For a. candidate under age a surety will be required.

(3) After passing the Final Examination each candidate will be required to attend again at the India Ofﬁce, with the view of entering into coven- ants and giving a bond for £1,000, jointly With two sureties, for the due fulﬁlment of the same. The stamps payable by civilians on these documents amount to £3 105.

' (4) Candidates rejected at the Final Examina- tion of 1871 will in no case be allowed to present themselves for re-examination.

Townships Nos. 25, 27 and 67.

HE Commissioner of Public Lands, having, under the authority of the Act 16 Victoria, Cap. 18, com- pleted the purchase of those portions of Townships Nos. 25, 27 and 67, the property of the Honorable James C. Pope, hereby notiﬁes all Tenants and Occu- piers of Land on the above property desirous of pur- chasing their several locations, that, in accordance with the 10th section of the above recited Act, he is now prepared to receive the Deposit of the Purchase Money of their several holdings, upon producing their titles, or agreement for the same.
