A CLERGYMAN'S horse took fright and ran away on Sydney street this morning. Passing the Methodist Church the sleigh collided with @ post and was broken into fragments. The horse continued his flight up East River, and will likely be discovered at the parochial residence of the clergyman.

ANNIVERSARY.—The annual meeting of the P. E. Island Auxillary Bible Society will be held in the Hall of the Y. M. ©. A., on Mon- day evening, the 31st inst., at 74 o'clock. The choirs of the city churches will conduct the service of praise.

James Ruan, wio was yesterday arrested tor being one of a number who forced the bung out of a cask of liquor, and after drinking till satisfied let the liquor run out, appeared be- fore the Stipendiary this forenoon for trial. The owner of the liquor would not appear to prosecute him, and he was discharged.

Tue survey of the Pugwash Branch Railway betwee: Oxford and River Philip, N.S, has been completed. A mowsrer Socialist ball and meeting was inaugurated on Saturday evening last, in Chicag», and continued throughout the night and up toa late hour on Sunday night. The concluding exercise was the drill of those who bore arms. It gave evidence of considerable knowledge of military tactics. No breach of the peace occurred.

Tar Patriot says Hon. D. Ferguson ‘‘is neg ecting his duties.’ Will the Patriot let us know the particulars? It cannot be truly said that Mr. Ferguson is neglecting the new

There will bea meeting of a number of members of both Houses in one of the Com- mons committee rooms for the purpose of dis- cussing the national currency question. The point aimed at by the promoters is to establish \ currency on the basis of the national domain,

Owing to the death of Her Royal Highness the Princess Louise's nephew—the young Prince Waldermar of Prussia—further enter- tainments have been postponed till April 16th.

Itis intimated that the Government has in- formed députations waiting upon them with regard to the tariff that after the session many of the discrepancies will be removed by orders in Council.

It is generally rumored that at a meeting of the Privy Council 1t was decided to recom- mend the dismissal of Lieut. Governor Letellier.

Flaherty, safe mannfacturer, of St. John, called a few days ago on Mr, Tilley and had merely to state his requirements to get the tariff immediately readjusted in his interest.

Major Carafoari had an interview on Wed- nesday with the Viceroy of India, -at which he informeé the latter that all hope of peaceful negotiations with Yakoob Khan had failed.

An immediate advance upon Cabual was ordered. Allis prepared for the advance, as the reports of the progress of the negotiations recently had been unsatisfactory. Shutar Gardan Pass is practicable, and Gen. Roberts can reach the crest of the pass in a week.

The Government has ordered the imme- diate revictualing of Quettah.
