comments. (Pardon my blunt— ness in some of my comments but I would rather be‘frank >than polite - for such is my call). J

l. Philosophically—e-this long-winded statement is .meaningless and the argu- ment would also be invalid ,if the major and minor pre- mise had made any sense. But then it would also be an absurd situation -

since two sensible prop- .osition5~could not gener- ate a non—sensible con- clusion.

2. Semantically---it is a verbal mUddle, reflecting the tyrrany of words on

the mind.

3. Psychologically—--it is a signal for HELP (see re- commendations below). An— other analyst of the inter— view may have even called it a 'verbal bluff' but I am not going to go that far. My purpose is not to quest- ion the sincerity of the person, only the_sensibility of the words and the thought if any, behind it. Additional comments: a) One has to remember that there is a distinction between 'the ivory tower philosophy and the tower of Babel var- iety: the former enriches, the latter is a curse.

b) When philosophizing, it is far better to let one fly out of the fly—bottle than to add a dozen to the hugh collection that al- ready exists.' c) One has to be careful in playing Humpty Dumpty and making words mean what one wants them to mean. When under such a temptation, a sim- ple reminder, that.Humpty Dumpty also had a great fall, can go a long way. Friendly persuasion: Where— of one cannot speak, clear- ly and without confusion, it is far better to remain silent. Too much high—flown philosophy (which appears! in the Cadre from time to 7 time) is nerve wracking and ruins what otherwise could be, and is, a fairly‘ good paper. Recommendations: The foll- owing simple books should help: 1. Straight andCrook—V ed Thinking--R.Thouless.

Gentlemen:

It is time attention was drawn to one of the most appalling conditions ever to exist at a university public or private. This is the Faculty Happy Hour. Held every Friday after- noon from 4:00 pm to 7:00pn the Happy Hour is evidently here to stay unless decency and reason_eventually tri-

umph.

It is little to be wonder- ed that the students of UPEI continue to agitate_for their own liquor license and lounge when they have no better example to follow. The enormity of the disgrace- ful situation is compounded by the fact that the Faculty Happy Hour conflicts with scheduled class hours.

What can the public and student think as they trip over the cartons of empty liquor bottles outside the faculty lounge? Is this perhaps a subtle obstacle course set up to test the steadiness of the degreed and gowned imbibers as they wend their way back to classes or shuffle in the general direction of a parking area?

What of their responsibil- ity to their growing fam- ilies? What must their wives and children think when they know that part of their husband and fathers' pay has gone to demon rum? Imagine trying to keep hearth and home together for a bleary-eyed wastrel reeking of alcohol and the noxious weed!

How can the faculty pre- sume to hold their liquor better than anyone else?

Is the situation so bad in UPEI classrooms and faculty politics that the bottle must be resorted to?

At no time have the faculty -shown proof of their ability, to drink and teach and drive. Should there not be rigid drinking standards set up? Before being allowed to drink on campus property (other than from the flaSk in the filing cabinet,

»over which there appears to be no controL), perhaps a standardised, accredited drinking exam should be given. These-exams would, of course, be set up by authorities in the field,
