Makine Reapy.—The people of St. Ther- esa's parish, Baldwin's Station, are beginning to make arrangements for a great tea party on Peake’s Station Trotting Park, about the first week in July next. The committee are de termined to make this a most enjoyable and successful affair, as well for the public who will patronize them on that day, as for them- Notice will be given in due time in regard to reduced rates on the railway, etc.

Tue Raitway.—Mr. Unsworth, accom- panied by Messrs. McPherson and Crosskill, went to Cape Traverse to-day, to inspect the railway and the long wharf atthe end. The road is in better order than it usually is at this season; and the trackmen are busily en goged in putting in new sleepers and making the rough places smooth. Pity that they can- got fulfil the scriptural injunction, and make the crooked places straight !

Ric Sitven Vern.—It is said vein, supposed to be rich with silver, has been discovered at Highland Park, a cou ls of miles from St. John. Some of the ore has been assayed by W. F. Best, analyti- cal chemist, and yields one hundred and six doliars worth of silver to the ton, be- sideslead and copper. The discovery is thought to be valuable.

O’Shea, who some time ago brought an action for divorce against his wife, naming Parne!l as co- respondent, to enforce the provisions of Mrs. O’Shea’s marriage settlement made in L867, and to compe! Capt. () Shea to trans- fer to her certain interests which are menaced by bankruptcy proceedings which fiave been brought against him.

Heber Hatlin, of the Colonial market, re- turned from P. E. Island Saturday with a car of very fine horses. Several of the ani- mals are to be used in connection, with the city works, while a few will be offered for gale. The horses are all fine looking animals, and weigh from 1100 two 1500 pounds each. They were much admired to-day by the large number who visited the owner's stables.

Tee Women Resion.—lt is stated that

the women receutly elected muuicipal of- ficers of the city of Elgerton, Kansas, have become disgusted with their newly acquired honors, and have resigned, They were el- ected originally as a joke. When they manifested a disposition to reform the old way of doing things, the men made such a racket that life became a burden to the women and they threw up the sponge. A special election to fill their places will be held May 19th.

A Sensatioval Statement.

A great sensation was created here to- day by the statement in Court of J. P. Whelan, the well known contractor, that he be obliged to pay Ernest Pacaud, Premier Mercier’s right hand man, $10,000 to pre- vent the amount of the award made to Whelan in the Quebee Court house claims from being struck off the list.
