Metallic Fire Proof Paint, Or, Artificial Slate.

THIS admirable article has been tested |

for some years, and proved very valuable, become a. perfect slate, as hard as mar- ble in a few months, corapletely protect- ing whatever is coated with it from the action of weather and fire—a better /fire- proof than tin or xinc. Several insurance Companies certify they will insure build- ings covered with it at a cheaper rate, than if covered with those metals. It is of two colors, the black is best for roof- ing—the chocolate the best thing ever discovered for sides of either brick or wood, forming a perfect stone coating of a handsome stone or chocolate color, can be ensily changed by a little white lead to sutt the taste. ‘There is nothing equal te it fer steambeat and car decks, and all kinde of iron, as it forms a coating: near- ly as hard ag the aon itself, and never cleaves off.

As the popularity of my paint has in- duced scores of unprincipled individuals to grind up, and offer as fire-proof paint, all kinds of worthless staff, much of it nothing but rotten stone that has no co- hesive attraction, is held on by the oil with which it is applied ; consequently, as soon as the action ef the atmosphere destroys the oil, at will wash or reb off tike Chalk or Waiting, nothing can yet be known of its dacting qualities, as @ 1s but little over a gear since they got them ap, whereas mine has been tested about seven, and where €rst applied is now like @ stone. :

(NHE Artiricia, State is the product

of a mixture of mineral substances, known to be the best non-conductore of heat as wel! as the most indestructible ; the chemical affinity of which converts the surfaces of materials covered, into a Coating of Actual Slate— Proof against FIRE and WATER. Thus the Jaws of nature are made to accomplish results as surprising ee they are useful, by render- ing wooden fabrics as durable as brick or stone, snd less pervious te moisture, and consequently preventing decay and destruction from corroding infiweaces hi- therto supposed unattainadle.

The principal ingredients are Alumina, Silica and the Oxides of fron. The ad- hesive quality of the latter not only binds and attracts the particles together, but the substance is coverec also. The longer exposed to the weather the mure powertu! the attraction, and consequently the hard- er the slate. As various shades of colour are obtained, Biack buildinge may be made impervious to moisture, avd the fashionable colours of either Free Stone or Granite. The oi! must be evaporated by the action of the weather before it is Fire proof, which will take from nine to twelve months.

The Meratiic Paints, Purple and med, are offered as Weather and Water proof solely. ‘Their base being Iron, se- cures them from Galvanic action so fatal to lead and other Paints on fron work— aad their chetnical combination makes it impossible that any change should take place from atmospheric influence, or the action of salt water and sulphurated hy- drogen, so prevalent in sea ports and tidal harbours. ‘They surpass all Paints yet discovered in Cheapness and Durabitity, which render them pre-eminently adapted to the covering of all kinds of lron work, such as Shipping, Mills, Bridges, Steam Machinery, Railway Cars, and fron Rail- ing. The Merauric Paints have been analysed by Professor Hays of Boston. The following is an extract from his Cer- tificate:—“* As a permanent pigment, this mineral must rank with the most tndes- tructible and unchangeable bases. For co- vering Metallic Ware, its composition shews that it is eminently fitted.

Directions.—ArtirictaL Suate, Mix the powder with pure Boiled Linseed Oil and a little Spirits of Turpentine to the consistency of very thick paint, and apply with a common Brush, being careful to keep the mixture well stirred while put- ting iton. One pound will cover ten equave of feet with two coats.

If shingles have been on for years, it will@e necessary to sweep off the moss and lint with a stiff broom; two or three coats of this material will make it a per- fect slate roof, proof against Fire and Water.

The Artificial Slate Paint, if it was more generally used we would have less fires in our City than we have had, it also preserves the shingles from Rot; the cheapness of your Paints is highly in their favour, if nothing else.

I have paint- ed our Gasholders with Red Lead Paint regularly every Spring for the last three years, and no sooner were they immersed in the water contained in the Tanks than I observed the effects of the Ammonia, marking the depth to which it had been in the water: this continued until Spring again, by which time it had almost be come white. I painted them this last spring with your Metallic Paint, and can- not yet observe any difference of colour. The part which gees among the water renains the same colour as that which does not. From its adhesive quality as well as cheapness, [ consider it superior to any thing | have ever seen for Iron Werk.
