The Presbytery of Prince Edward Island met in regular quarterly session at eleven a. m. on Tuesday. May 8th, in Zion_ Church Hall. Charlottetown, and was OPBIIEQ m due form by the moderator, Rev. G. Carlyle Webster.

L- Griffiths, Rev. J. A. Pritchard. Rev. W. O. Rhoad, and ‘Messrs. Geddie Douglas, Angus McLean, R. G. MoLai-cn, Dougaid McPherson Charles K. Martin, Thomas Ram- ray, Agustus Weddell and A. A. McDonald, representative elders- Others present, not members of the Court, were: Rev. M. E. Gcnge, D. D., Mr. V. E. Orsborn. Student Catechlst, and Messrs. Norman McFayden. John A. Rev. Edwin White. a recent graduate of the Presbyterian Coi- legc, Montreal, was present and was asked to sit and correspond. Mr. ilViiite thanked the Court for the courtesy thus extended to him. The Minutes o: the last regular quarterly session were read and, after several slight corrections had been made, were adopted.

The correspondence was then dealt. with. One of the first items of business was the dealing with seven applications from Ministers of other churches, wishing to be received inio the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and with six applications from lic- entiates of various denominations. asking to be licensed and ordain- ed into the ministry oi the Pres- byterian Church in Canada.

The Presbytery of Guelph is making application to the General Assembly for permission to receive Rev. George w. Carter, M. A., a Minister oi the United Church of Canada, as a Minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The Presbytery of Brockville is making application to the General Assembly for permission to receive Rev. J. W. Stevenson, M.A., IB.D. who in 1925 went automatically in- to the United church as a minis- ter of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. ,. J

The Presbytery of Calgary is re- newing its application to the Gen- erai Assembly to receive Rev. M. G. Garabedian, B.A-., B.D., a Minister of the United Church of Canada, as a. minister of the Pres- byterian Church in Canada.

The Presbytery of Red Deer is renewing its application for the admission of Rev. n. S. Stevens, a former Methodist Minister, into the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

The Prcsbytery oi Hamilton is making application to the General Assembly to receive Rev. Frederick R. Anderson, B.A., B.D., Minister of the Baptist Church in Canada, as a Minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

The Presbytery of Hamilton is also making application to receive Rev. R. Russell, 13.11., a Minister of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. as a Minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

The Clerk then read two reso- lutions sent down by the Board of Administ salon to all oi the pres- byterlcs "thruiqihout Canada; these resolutions were:

l-dhat all proposed real estate transactions. i.e., buying. selling or mortgaging real estate in which the interests of the Church are concerned, should be passed upon by the Board of Administration before legal steps in connection with them are taken.

2-'I‘hat the advice and opinion of the legal Committee of the Board of Administration, be sought in all cases, where litigation is con- sidered snd before any steps are taken in law, and that the con- sent of the Board oi Administra- tion be secured ln all {.85€S_Wh€l‘G financial assistance may be sought from the funds of the Church at large.

The resolutions were placed on file for reference.

The resignation of Rev. R. Hen- sley Stavert, M.A., 3.1)., from Hunter River pastoral charge, which had been tendered by Mr. Stavert some months ago, to take effect 0n May 31st, i934. was dealt with.

Rev. G. Carlyle Webster, who had been appointed interim Mod- erator of the Brookfield. Hnrtsville and Hunter River sessions, when Mr. Stavert had tendered his res- ignation. presented the matter to the Court. Mr. Webster spoke of the very fine piece of work which Mu‘. Smvert had done during the past ctxteen years-not only willi- in the bounds of his own pastoral charge, but also throughout the whole Presbytery of Prince Edward Island. At the time of the disrup- tion. in i925. he had fought in the front. line trenches and he, with Others. had won a great victory. He had not only saved all of the churches in his own pastoral charge but also had assisted in saving quite a number of others in dif- ferent parts of the Island. Then, in the face of all the opposition and of the enmity incurred in the days of the struggle, he had car- ried on the work successful iicr nine years. ,

"To me." said Mr. Webster, "it is wonderful, indeed, that Mr. atavert has been able to meet with such success. ‘Fhere are only two other men in the whole Presbyter- ian Church in Canada who have‘ been able to do what Ml‘. Stavert has done. ‘lbday only three men in our church are in the same congregations as they were in 1025. and Mr. Stavert is one of them. This speaks a. very great deal for Mr. Stavert."

"We us so that Mr. Stavcrt hos tendered his resignation and that it is taking effect on May 31st. We all can assure Mr. Stav- ert that we shall always be in- tcrosted in his future welfare and that he has our best wishes for continued success."

Mr. Donald Campbell told of how sorry the people of Brookfieid were to have Mr. Stavert leave the congregation. He had done a great work and was very sorry, indeed, that he had tendered his resigna- tion. As a congregation, we have received great blessings from his sermons. We shall miss him very much, indeed. .

Rev. Mr. Webster again spoke and commented on the many fine expressions of appreciation and of

devotion to Mr. stavcrt given by,

the elders and managers through- out his long pastorate, and espec- ially during the trying days since i925. Very few oi use, said Mr. Webster, will ever have the splen- did record that Mr. Btavert has, and very few of us will come through such trying times as well as Mr. Stavert has.

Rev. D. L. Griffiths said that we would all be very glad, indeed, to have such a record as Mr. Stav- ert has. He said that we must do all in our power to keep Mr. Btgv- ert in the bounds oi the Presbytery of Prince Edward Island.

Rev. J. A. Pritchard said that he had only known Mr. Stavert for a short while, but he had heard a great many good thing: about him. He had heard him Sllcken of "the fight horse of our Church." He only hoped that at the end of half of sixteen years‘ cf service in any one place, that his men would be as ready to say as many fine things about him as had Mr. Steven's men after his sixteen years’ of service among them,

Stavert had done at Clyde River-a new section which was added to his pastoral charge in 1925, and that as this field was separate and dis- tinct from the Brookfieid, floris- vilie and Hunter River pastoral charged. he hoped that Mr. Stavert could in some Way be persuaded to continue to carry on hie good work there,

Mr. Geddie Douglas urged the Presbytery to do everything in its Power to keep Mr. Btavert on Prince Edward Island. The Pres- byterian Church on Prince Edward Island will never be able to pay him for the great work that he has done. He has toiled day and night in the interest of the church. He has never spared himself.
