After hearing evidence, the three prisoners were re- manded for eight days.

HyMENeEAL.—Early on Monday morning last a large number assembled at St. Dunstan's Catbedral, to witness the ceremonies connect- ed with the nuptials of Dr. P. Conroy, and Miss Emma Newbery, daughter of the late Johr Fenton Newbery. The Gordian Knot was tied by His Lordship Bishop MelIntyre, who is an uncle of the groom, assisted by Father James McDonald. After the cere- mony was performed, many were the congratu- lations they received, to which we wish to add Tue Examiner's, and at the same time express the hope, that theirs may be a prosperous and happy life.

At Menaghan, on the 2nd, Healy ad- dressed a large crowd of people, by whom he was received with great enthusiasm. He said that landlordism had been trampled under foot, and that the election represented the demand of Ulster for speedy reform intheland laws. He said there was little doubt that before many years every farmer in Ireland would be owner cf his holding.

The Steamer ‘‘Queen,” of the National Line, arrived at New York on the 2nd with 731 passengers. The emigration inspectors learned that 175 of them were pauper immigrants and the emigration authorities notified the steamship company that they declined to receive them until a guarantee was given that they would be taken back to Europe when all necessary legal formalities were complied with.

An accident occurred on the Rochester & Pittsburgh Railroad at 3 o'clock on the Ist at Russelar, 25 miles south east of Bradford. The first section of a coal train to which was attached a passenger car con- taining fifteen persons, broke in two on a heavy grade and seven of the cars rushing back down the grade ran into the second section smashing the cars to pieces. Six pereons, including a conductor and a brake- man were killed and the others wounded more or less severely.

Mr. Biggar, M. P., in a speech at Man- chester on the 2nd, declared that the lead- ing trait of the present Government was falsehood. He said that Mr. Errington had been sent to Rome to lie in alleging that Parnell and his friends were in league with murderers, and that the Irish were without grievances. He thought it doubtful whether Mr. Trevalyan, present chief secretary for Ireland, was much better than Forster. He asserted that Trevelyan had recently lied about paupers shipped across the Atlantic.

The Italian navvies at werk en the new branch of the Midland Railway, between Omemee and Peterboro, Untario, have for several weeks past been warning all hands that they intended to strike on Monday, 2nd for $1.50 per day, and that they wowld pre- vent work being done on the road unless they got the raise in their wages. 2nd they refused to work and tried to drive off all others that were working. Revolvers were used on both sides. Four Italians | were wounded, but not dangerously. One of them was arrested and brought before 4 magistrate. He had a wound in the fleshy part of the forearm.

A fire broke out at Dauphin County Almshouse, two miles from Harrisburgh, Pa., on the 2nd inst., and destroyed every building on the ground, except the laundry and‘ the schoolhouse. The fire was dis- covered in a stable located near the main structure, an elegant building three stoires high. The stable was consumed with its contents, including five horses and two mules. The heated slate on the structure set fire to that building, and there was a high wind at the time, the building was soon destroyed. As soon as the dwelling canght, the steward and his assistants rush- ed to the insane department and forced the excited inmates, 21 females and 17 males, from their quarters.
