A Domestic Princess.

Princess Bismark, as recently sketch- ed, has preserved all the simplicity of her youth. She is a perfect specimen in the best sense of the word, of the German Hausfrau (housewife). She is very quiet, bears her honers as the most:natural thing in the world, holds fast by the old friends of humbler days, and has but one great object in life— to make her husband and children happy. She cares for them in a peace- ful, motherly way ; and her serenity and patience, which have always se~ cured for Bismarck.a quiet home, have certainly feontributed to his” sweeess| through life, « ‘She it is,’ he once said to a friend, “who has made me whatI am.” They have three children —Marie, Herbert and William. Her- bertis his father’s private secretary ; William has studied forthe bar. Both will enter Parliament this year.

Printina BY WateR-PowerR.—Dur- ing the last week the power by which the Herald has been printed has been a thirty-inch (single) water motor. Itis a little machine taking up no more room than a farmer’s grind stone,and is rather ornamental than otherwise. But small compact, and simple as it is, it is one of the greatest inventions of the age, being a triumph in the application of hydraulics and the inventor’s art. It is supplied with water from the mains, and the stream used passes through a tip through which an ordinary Faber pencil will barely pass. The power is obtained from the pressure, which we understand, is about fifty pounds at this poigt. The full capacity of the motor we do not know, but the pcwer is more than we haye any use for at present. Small as the jet is that turns it, one half of the force is sufficient for our purpose, as with it one thousdnd Herald's an hour can be printed. Pro- bably double the speed could be obtain- ed if necessary. It is a pleasure to watch the motor work, it performs its duty with such ease and perfect regu- larity, and is so quite about it. There is no “firing up,” no waiting for steam, no smoke, no dust, no heat, no danger of an explosion, no engineer, no guages to be watched, no boilers to be repaired, no unpleasant smell, nothing aboat it that is dangerous or disagreeable. You simply turn a hand-wheel and work begins, the power and speed being regulated at will by the little wheel opening and closing the valve that con- trolls the water.—Salt Lake Herald.
