And old people. Think how they wake up and come back to new life when they find some one who will actually ask them questions about things that happened in their youth, and who doesn't look like an early Christian martyr when they start out on a Joke that has served them for forty years! cups flour

teaspoon soda

teaspoon cinnamon

cups rolled oats 1-2 cup chooped nuts

Method: Because of the spice and the fruit. you can make these cookies very satisfactorily out 0f shortening instead of butter. Cream it with the sugar, then add the well-beaten eggs. Scald the raisins and than drain, then cook them in the water until they are tender.

Sift the flour, measure and sift again witn the soda and cinnamon. Add tlfls to the butter mixture. then add the raisins with the water in which they were cooked. Add the nuts and ‘the oats. The mix- ture should be fairly stiff, but soft enough to drop from the tip of a spoon.

Drop onto a greased cookie sheet and bake in a hot. 4-00-deg. F. oven for about 10 minutes, until a golden brovm. Allow them a little | room to spread while baking. If, the raisins were fresh enough not to absorb too much of the water. that amount will make them ex- actly right. If not, you may have to add a few drops more, but don't get them too soft or they will run.

PORK TENDERDOIN LYONNAISE.

Two large tendelolrls. weighing a pound apiece, will be best for this dish. Cut them in halves length- wise, sprinkle with salt and pepper and dredge very lightly with flour. Melt in a frying pan one-fourth of a cup of butter or bacon fat, and - brown the meat on both sides. The pan should be very hot and the meat browned quickly. without cooking it through. Remove to plate in warming oven and add to the fat in the pan three mime- thinly sliced. Cook until golden brown, then dredge with flour, stir. and add to pan one-half cup of hot water mixed with two taihle- apoona of vinegar. Put into a baking pan. lay tcrlderloirls over mixture. cover closely and cook in a moderate oven, 3'15 degrees Fah- . renbeit, for an hour and a hallf or
