Basketball Likeable Dave

Smith, Coach for the past two years has left us to pursue a doctoral degree. His place will be taken by Gary Heald who, as coach of the Camden-Rock- port High School team comes to us with a hot record of 132725. In addition to the several holdovers from last year

players including some South-of-the—Border ones who, We suspect, are att- racted by Gary Heald's name. The league will be divided into two divisions with the four N.S. teams in one section and U.P.E. I. in with Mount AllisOn,

as Saint Thomas and Mon- cton on a reduced basis. The two top teams in each section will qualify for the playoffs which will be held at the Gym. of the winning N.S. team and WE WILL BE THERE. Soccer This game has never achieved the popularity of other sports at U.P.E. I. but we think that it is finally-gaining recog— nition as a major sport. In fact we were finally admitted into the league this year 5 years of try- ing. Vince Mulligan has left the ice to take over. We do not know anything about the players. In fact the only thing we know about the game is that- only the goalkeeper can handle the ball and that the object of the game is to kick the ball into the opponent's net and that that counts one. We be— lieve this is the extent of the knowledge of most fans here but we'll bet that, by the time the snow flies, there will be lots of grandstand "experts" to give Vince gratuitious advice. First home game will be on Sept. 28 again- st Mount»A. We'll play home and home games again- st Moncton, U.N.B. and Mount A. with the two top teams playing off with the top pair from N.S. Anyone interested in a tryout will be warmly welcomed. We couldn't find Barb— ara Mullally but, hope- fully, we'll have a few words soon from the dis- taff side of the campus.
