The Primate of All England was born 1n a Presbyterian Manse in Scotland. eon of the Rev. Dr. Mu- ahall Lang. who afterwards became Principal of Aberdeen University. The Primate of All England is dif- ferent from the Primate of England, the former embracing the latter. ‘but the present dignltary has been successively both, having been pro- moted from the Arblahopric of York to that of Canterbury. The future Archbishop first studied law and then returned to Oxford to enter holy orders. His father having be. come principal, the senatuk con- sidered it would be a fitting com- pliment to invite his eon to occupy the pulpit and preach to the faculty and students in University Chapel. Although on a vacation. as I lived near the University I accepted an assignment to cover the event. On the preceding Saturda evening, as the custom. was. I in erviewed the prospective preacher to borrow his sermon for summary, the manu- script to be returned before morn- ing service. The Rev. Oosmo Gordon Lang, the soul of cordlallty and geriiality, politely but firmly tumcd. me down suggesting I might get ill, or even die, before-service, and then ua his sermon. what excuse would he have to offer the expect- ant congregation. Mr-Lang became Bishop of Stepney; in 190B Prime Minister Asquith nominated him to the Archbishoprlc of York; and in 192B Prime Minister Baldwin nom- inated him for promotion to Gan- terbury, succeeding another Scots- man, Archblshop Lord Davidson. The Archbishows younger brother, Rev. Marshall B. Lang, M.A., B.D-. D11, TD" F.S.A., is the Presbyter- ian Minlater of Whittingehame, the Parish Church of Lord Balfour, who played so distinguished a part in Church and State during his life- time.

Archbishop Lang has proved him- self one of the ablesl; and most brilliant eccleslastlcs and states- men enthroned at Canterbury, guid- ing and directing his Church and people successfully out of the after- math of troubles resulting from the rejection of the New Prayer Book by the House oi’ Commons.

A large group of the outstanding surgeons of North America some months ago discussed this matter and made the definite statement, “Cancer is curable."

And the records of oases that were presented at that meeting tell their own story.

Dr. J. M. Wainwright, Scranton. Pa, reported a woman of 61, with breast cancer for six years: she liv- ed 28 years and 8 months; another operated on for cancer, present for a year, alive now, 23 years after the operation; still another alive at B6, some 20 years after operation.

Dr. C. W. Grile, Cleveland, and as- sociates have seen 8,679 cancers, 2,756 operated on, i999 who under- went operatian and radium treat- ment, 1931 had radium treatment only, and 2953 on whom it was im- possible to operate. Of 1928 cases they were able to trace 1,182 surviv- ed three years or more, and '13’! for flve years.

Dr. D. Guthrie, Sayre, Pa, report- ed 50 cases who were nllvo more than five years aft/er operation.

Dr. N.J. Matt-Lean, Winnipeg, Can- ada, reported 8i cures, lasting. from 5 to 2B years.

These figures from such reliable sources certainly prove that "cancer ta curablbe", and should do much to remove the fear and doubt about the value of the methods of treating cancer.
