Tue Bram Case.—The Borton Globe of the 17th iust., gives a long account of the Bram trial. So farthetwo days of the trial have been taken up in selecting jurors, fifty-five of the 174 names being called and ouly four jurors chosen. The ‘rial will probably last for a considerable time at the present rate of progress.

At the sume time it may be mentioned that it requires two men bers of tha force te spend nearly all of tbeir time at the work in order to keep the loafers from congregat- ing at their favorite corners.

Perators & Eecs.—Quite a lot of potatoes are being brought to town for which 28 and 30 cents a bushel are being paid by the dealers who are awaiting ship- ment. Eygs are bringing 1¢ cents a dozen and are being sent to the other pro- vinces. The price for eggs will probably drop next week as the supply is inctems- ing.

Raipway Time Tasie.—The Inter- colonial Railway time-table into which is incoporated the time-table of the P. E. I. Railway is being issued. This will de- prive us of a separate timetable of our own and also deprive our local printers ofa postion of Government job printing. The new time table contains advertisements of steamship companies, and other railways and its publication in thts form is pro- bably one of Manager Harris’ economic measures.

Tue Hitisnorover Survey.—The eur- vey of the Hillsborough River is now al- most completed, and the engineers in charge expect it finished next week. Mr. McKenzie informs us that although the deposits upon the bottom rock make a thickness of over thirty feet, vet at a depth of ten to fifteen feet, the eilt is stiff enough to support piling. The deposits are silt or black mud deposited by the river current, then sand, then a stiff black clay and under that sandstone rock. The silt 18 deposited more on the other side of the river than on tnis side, while the course of the channel is comparatively clear,

Ciry Covxcr..—A special meeting of the City Council will be held on Monday aight when the bill te permit the Gas Light Co. to operate street cars tn Charlottetown and Royalty will be submitted. The proposal to introduce street cars when submitted a couple of years ago wasdefeated on ac- count ofa demand that they should be al Jowed to runon Sundays. A clause in the present bill states that the cars shall run on Sundays, except between the houra of Iba. m.and 12 a.m, and 7 p. m, and 8.15 p. m. On the following Monday night the 28th, another special meeting of the Couneil will be held to consiber the sew~ erage bill.

Tue Cares Service.—There have been fewer misses this season with the mail boats than for several years. In 1896 the season began 24th January and ended 18th April, and there were 16 misses; in 1897 the season began 22nd January and ended 24th April, with 9 misses; this year the boats commenced running on the 26th January aud up to date there have only beeu 5 misses. An idea of the expense of this service will be given by the tollowing fiznres: In 1896 the earnings were $357.- 08 andexpenses $7770 81. There were carried 4316 bags of mails, 145 strep passengers and 18 hauled, and 1019 Ibe, of extra bagggage. Ia 1697 the earnings were $372.75 and expenses $9112.30. The oumber of bags of mails carried was 472!, and 151 strap and 14 bauled passengers as well as 147 Ibs of extra baggage were brought over. If the Stanley succeeds io geit.og into this port next week the Capes service will probably be discontinued in which ease the season will have been a verv short one,
