On SUNDAY NIGHT the billiurd room of the Queen Club was felonously entered and up- wards of fifteen dollars stolen therefrom. At the same time the Vew Hra office was entered ina like manner. Thesafe was tampered with but nothing was taken. No clue to the thieves.

Messrs. T. K. Jenkins & Co., sold, yes- terday, the cargo of potatoes ex schooner Cherokee, from P. E. Island, at 35 and 40 cents ; lard, 7 cents ; butter, 1] cents. They also offered alewives, which brought 33.15 a tierce, and cedar shingles offered $1.59 per M., but none were sold.—Hx. Herald.

Lower Queen street. The cry of “fire” was heard in several sections of the city. Silsby engine went to the scene, but the fire was ex- tinguished by the active use of water-buckets before her arrival.

A younG MAN, named Archibald McLeod, was drowned at Crapaud, yesterday. He, in company with others, went bathing. ‘They were but a short time in when McLeod fell, apparently with cramps, aud disappeared be- low the surface. He was drowned before any assistance coull be rendered. The deceased was a tailor, and worked in this city a short time ago.

“Army Worws have put in an appearance at New Annan, P. E. 1., in immense numbers. ‘he stripped the woods of Messrs. Jas. Swan and John Wilson’s farms, and at last accounts were moving towards the grain fields and to other parts of the district.”

The above, which is clipped from a New

srunswick paper, is, we are informed, entirely incorrect. ‘These unwelcome Visitors have not yet appeared at New Annan or at any other part of the Province.

Cuear Ins’ rgnce.—A subscriber at Nay- anee in remitting says :—‘* I insured my house inthe Canada Agricultural Insurance Co. They burst, and 1 lost two years on one and three months on another policy. I then in- sured in the Ottawa Agricultural, and 1 un- derstand now they have also reinsured their policies with the Watertown Agricultural In- surance Co. Can you inform me in your next issue ifIam insured or not? I really don't know, and there are others in this section who are equally ignorant. Please inform us, and oblige yours. '—Jfonetary Times.

Pro- perty holders might as well save their money as to accept cheap insurance, without being guaranteed perject security in the event of joas. Arrempren INcCENDIARISM.—Sackvile, N. B., is rapidly acquiring a very bad reputa- tion. Ona short time has elapsed since a determined attempt was made to assassinate aman in the open highway. Now another very serious occurrence is reported. A telegram to the St. John Globe from Sack- ville says : ‘‘Last night about 10.30, four young fellows named Deans, McEachern, Coll and Manship set fire to the house of Joseph Sears. Sears fired at them witha shot gun but missed. The second time he was more successful and shot Deans and Manship—the other parties escaping. It is not yet known how badly Deans and Manship are shot, but as far as can be learned not fatally.

According to a German journal—the Tayblatt—an agreement, or, as it is called, a inodus vivendi, has been arranged between Russiaand the Vatican. The Pope will ap- point bishops from ecclesiastics designated by the Czar. The Catholic Synod at St. Petersburg will he dissolved, and the bishops have a right of freely communicat- ng with the Vatican, and publishing bulls and encyclicals after they have received the

Czar’s placet. Exiled prelates are to be | ainnestied.
