The Tribune's London special says that Jas. Redpath, now in Dnblip, reports that he has received Jetters from almost every Baronetcy in Kerry, Galway, Sligo, Dene- gal, South Cork and - Clare Counties, where the destitution is the greatest, rank- ing in the order named. The writers are niostly priests, and the letters indicate that the distress is greater than has been represented in America. It is increasing rapidly and is spreading in many direc- tions. Fever is breaking out in numerous districts. It is produced by want. A pathetic account of nakedness and extreme want comes from Arran Island, Valentia and other Isles, on the west coast. stories come from the counties of Cavan, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Limerick, Monaghan and Roscommon.

Trade in Manufactures with France.

Says the Montreal Gu The Ontario Goverament has appointed 34,500 to promote the saleof manufactures of the Province i Frauce. The money is to defray the cxpenses of an oflice and warehouse in Paris, under the charge of Mr. Corman, the accred the (iovernment, but who receives no remnn- eration for his services other than commission obtained from manufacturers on the sale of their wares. Mr. Corman is apparently meet- ing with success in kis work, having made several contracts for reapers, mowers, cheese, barley, corn shellera, &c., and the trade re- turns for the last fiscal year shows that our exchanges with France are rapidly increasing. Mr. Corman will be glad, we presume, to dis- play samples of manufactures of any part of the Dominion, and it might be advisable for some of our manufacturers to communicate with him or Mon. Mr. Hardy.

Sin,—I shall endeavor to answer ‘‘Ob- server's’ question regarding the ‘‘Monaco Divorce Case.”

The facts are these ; The Princess Monaco asked for a decree from Reme,te declare the nullity of her marriage on the ground of meral coercion at tine the marriage was contracted,

The Court, having heard the testimony, deciced that such was the case and decreed the marriage to be null.

The Court, having jurisdiction to enter- tain the question, its decision is binding on all courts in every civilized country.

Strictly speaking this is not a ‘‘diverce” case at ail, because “‘clivorce’ is a separation of persons who were married, but these people ever were married. :

Marriage isa contract—true it is a sac- rament as well, but it is net the less a con- tract. Contracts, to be valid, must be made by free agents. This is a principle net only of the civil law but of our common law.

If a man holds a loaded pistol to my head and compels me to execute a ceed of a piece of land, the Court will, upon my proving this fact, set aside the deed, and declare it to be null and veid.

The Princess Monaco was found not to have been a free agent, therefore the ‘‘con- tract” into which she had been compelled to enter was not binding upon her.

Observer” will thus see that this is not a question of ‘‘re-marriage’’ of divoreed persons. The decision is that the Prince and Princess of Monaco were really never married, and are, consequently, free to contract other marriage.

Our Goods have been very cheap all winter, as the run of trade we have had fully testifies. Our store has become the resort of those Ladies who know how tomake a penny go a long way, and who know a cheap article when they see it; and when we say we are going to reduce the prices of our Dress Goods and Trimmings, we know we shall be believed. We are particul- arly anxious to clear out our present Stock, in order to intro- duce as much of the newest style of Dress Material as possible, and at the very lowest prices.
