He declared that the 30,000 men who participated, were utterly uoflit to send abroad. They were, be said, badly led and badly taught.

Many distinguished officers listened to his remarks, among them General Montgomery-Moore, formerly in command in Canada, but now commanding at Alder- sbot.

Dear Farner :—Something strange is going tO Occur here sure. I have received three letters and a postal card from you almost ina batch, the videst in date being March 12th—nearly four months chasing me,—the second seven weeks,and the jatest datea May 28th. I was becoming dis- couraged, but the amount of news they contained revived me and made up for the delay. Iam very grateful at receipt of those letters and also grateful to the numerous friends in Charlotietuwn and elsewhere whom you name as making in- quiries about me. Much of our mai! must pave beea lost as I have received only a few of the papers you #17 you sént me.

The 19.h Brigade is re-formed, the Suffolks takirg our place. The Brigade is to go north after Gen. Botha. A, B, C, D and E companiesofthe R. C. R. are still at the Springe, H company at Boke- pan, eight miles away, and Gand F companies in the armored train.

lt does not at all look now as if we were going to be sent home oon, but be- ing on the armored train will be a new ex- perience to us, of which I hope to give you a full account later on.

I am well, and I wish to be remembered to my old and kind friends.
