By this means, therefore, 90,000 words, 'using round numbers, would be transmitted in an hour; six columns of such correspondence as you publish would be transmitted in two hours.

It is scarcely necessary to say. that neither the length ofthe despatch nor the distance has an_vthin;_v tit do with the result. The prompti- tuda of the arrival would for all practical purpos- es be as great for 10,000 as for 1,000 miles, and the length ofthe despatch would merely augment the time of its delivery in the ratio of about 300 words per minute.
