Oa arrival the party was divided into groups under the charge of the sev- eral farm officials, and in this way visited the various parts of the farm, in all the de- partments of which they displayed much interest. ‘The farm itself was its best. fhe growth of plants and cereals has been most satisfactory, the crops and roots com- ing on well, and the stock in excellent order. After spending a couple of hours in taking in the sights, the visitors soon after noon assembled in the big barn, where they partook of a samptuous lunch, comprising principsly the produc‘s of the farm. Then speech-making followed, on all sides nothing being heard but commen- dation of the farm and its methods and praise of the cfficers ia charge.

A bill, introduced by the Minister of Marine respecting the inspection of ships, provides that the inspector, who now cun- tiues his investigation to the condition of hulls, shall be authorized to inspect ships, tackle, rigging, &s., thus affording greater protection to sailors.

The Government intend asking a vote from Parliament to erect a statue to Sur Jobin Macdonald, and it will probab'y be placed immediately in front of the tower at the head of the stone steps approaching the Parliament building.

Bo MeKenz‘e and his friends I may say that a bill en- titled an Act to secure the better observance of the Lord's Diy has been agreed upon by the special committee to whom it was re- ferred for consideration and report some weeks ago. The committee has made ex- tensive amendments to the original bill, as submitted to it, chiefly by striking out clauses considered too stringent in their provisions and not practicable in application to some vf the provinces of Canada, with many of whose established customs it would interfere. ‘Ihe amended bill reported from sommittee prohibits work and_ trafiic on Sunday as follows: The printing, publica- cation and sale of any newspaper ; provid- ed, however, that necessary oflice work may be performed after 9 u'clock in the evening of the Lord’s Day for the purpose of facili- tating the publication of the Monday morn- ing issue of any daily newspaper ; the opening of avy of the canals of Canada to traflic or business from 6 a. in. to 10 p m. on Sunday; but this provision may be suspended in any year by order in couneii afier the 15 h of October. No railway train isto be loaded at any railway station or elnpty cars moved from one station to another, nor any freight train permitted to depart from any railway station in Canada ou Sun. day, except such as are made up of live stock or perishable freight, and where the des- patching of trains to relieve sufferers by acci- dent or tire is deemed necessary.
