There are so many hills to climb upward I often am longing for rest, But He who appoints me my pathway, Knows what is needful and best ! I know in His word He has premised That my strength shall be as my day; And the toils of the road will seem nothing When I get to the end of the way.
He loves me too well to forsake me Or give me one trial too much;
All his people have been dearly purchased, And Satan can never claim such. By-and-by I shall see Him and praise Him, In the city of unending day; ' And the toils of the road will seem nothing

Cooling fountains are there for the thirsty, There are cordials for those who are faint;
There are robes that are whiter and purer Than any fancy can paint;
Then I'll try to press hopefully onward, Thinking often through each weary day,

Ceylone in New Caledonia.
TERRIBLE PESTRUCTION OF LIFB AND PROPERTY. A despatch from Sydney, New South
Wales, states that the Island of New Caledo- nia was Visited by a fearful cyclone storm on the 24th Jaz., which resulted in an enormous destruction of property and loss of life within the circle of the storm. The wind is estimat- ed to have blown at the rate of one hundred miles an hove. At Namcea, the seat of Gov. ernment, the scene is described as having heen terrible. The sea rose to an almost un- precedented height, the force of the wind was greater than had been experienced there for years, and the waves, notwithstanding the fact that the harbor is sheltered by several ouvlying Islands, swept the shore, and drove several ships which were lying at auchor in port, upos rocks, and wrecked them com- pletely.
Houses were unroofed or blown down, in many cases crushing the iuhabitante beneath the ruins. [nthe Loyalty and other adjacent Islands the effects of the cyclone were leas pronounced, only because there wae less to destroy. The course vi the storm was south- erly, and it is supposed to have crossed the whole width of the Pacific, from the direction ef the northern coast of South America or Mexico, subsiding before reaching the sheres of Australia.
Reports from the interior of New Caledonia speak of the great destruction of life and pro- perty in the agricultural villages at the mines and in the peninsula of Duccos, the penal set- tlement of France, to which country the Is- land belongs. [New Caledonia is an island of the South Pacific Ocean, belonging to France, and lying sbout 720 miles east-north-east of the coast of Queensland, in Australia, in lat. 20° 22°, 30’ S., long. 164°., 167° EB. It is about 200 miles in length, 39 miles in breadth, and has a population estimated at 60,000. It is of volcanic origin, is traversed in the direction of its length, from north-west to south east, by a range of mountains, which in some cases reach the height of about 8000 feet, and is surrounded by sand-banks and coral reefs. ]

A committee on Irish Relief has been formed at Paris, under the Presidency of the Archbishop of Paris.
The Times’ Paris despatch says the Uns- verse has forwarded 1,000 francs to the Catholic Archbishop of Cashel for the re- lief af the distress in his diocese.
