E we were away from this desk. our friends. .St. Dunstan’s Varsity hockey squad, picked up another impressive intercollegiate triumph. soundly trouncmg Halifaxs Dalhousie. aints, enjoying a terrific year under coach Jack Kane. can climb into second place in the league standings With a triumph tomorrow (Friday) night over Acadia . This is a four point contest and Saints are favorites to beat the Wolfville students at the Red and White rink. Sunday . they face a stern test when they entertain the hustling St. Thomas Tommies from Chatham. N.B. I But Saints have reached the point where they think they onquer in both contests. It's not a case of over-confidence. The local collegians have be:ome a_ mighty good hockey. out- fit and they are receiving rave notices all through the inter- collegiate circuit. They are possessed of a determination that is going to be hard to beat. The Kanemen realize the opposuion is formidable but they are not devaluatng themselves.

Curling Holds Spotlight

WOMEN curlers ane- having a great time of it this week In Charlottetown as they battle for the provincial championship and the right to represent Prince Edward Island in the Diamond ‘D' at Saint John later this month.

Next week at Summerside the men curlers take over and go at each other in the British Consols play for the men‘s pro- vincial championship. The winner of this competition goes to Brandon, Manitoba in early March for the MacDonald Brier.

Art Burke will be trying his mightiest to retain the crown he won in a dramatic battle with Doug Cameron last Febru-

. However. Art will find a lot of rinks in this competition that have their hearts set on the trip to the west. Of course. Doug Cameron will be trying to regain his crown in this com- ing competition and there are many who feel the smooth Charlottetown curler can do it.

Then there is the Myron Bell rink that has come so close on several occasions. Myron hopes that things will work out better this time and that when the smoke of battle has cleared. he will be the skip of the winning rink.

However we were soriy to disappoint him in r ad that Leafs-Canadiens game in Montreal last Thursday night. He had told you readers that we were attending it and e ex- pressed a hope that we‘d see our Leafs take a good drubbing.

Well we did attend and for a time it looked as though Carman was going to get his wish. The Habs led 20 early in the first period and we eould see Smitty grinning at home from ear to car. But the Imlachmcn must have found out we were in the rink and they responded handsomely, scoring six goals before Canadiens got their third and last.

We loved it. Smitty.

Th Birds agreed to make this trip to the eastern town to help the cause of minor hockey in that locality. The pro- ceeds all will go to the promotion of minor hockey. The Penguins are receiving nothing but their transportation.
